Gateway Science Academy is a math, science, and technology focused college-prep school. The school opened in August 2010 and is managed by Concept Schools, a successful charter school management company. Lindenwood University recently completed its annual review of Gateway and states the school is delivering a “good and sound academic program” and that parents are very happy. PCG's loan will facilitate the renovation of warehouse space to create a K-12 facility. Upon completion of the renovation, Gateway will expand its K-5 program, move grades 6-8 to the new site, and grow by one grade per year until both buildings are fully enrolled with 880 K-12 students. The newly renovated building will be able to accommodate 375 students with this initial renovation and 425 students when it is built out in future years. The new location will serve a community of African-American and Latino households. It is expected that 50% of the students will come from low-income census tracts and qualify for the school lunch program.
